Traveling with Minors

All travelers who are 17 or under at the time they complete their online Travel Profile are considered a minor (This includes individuals who will be 18 years old on the departure date of the team).

The expected ratio is 1 adult per 4 minors (14-17), unless otherwise approved by FH staff.

Minors age 14 to 17 are not required to travel with a parent or legal guardian. However, their parent or legal guardian is required to grant a medical Power of Attorney to an adult traveling with the team.  The example below has space for the signature of a Notary Public.  Food for the Hungry does not require the signature of a Notary.  The parent or legal guardian of the minor and the Team Leader should determine whether or not they would like to ask a Notary to witness the document.

Minors age 13 and under are required to travel with a parent or legal guardian. If the minor is the age of 10 (or younger), their travel must be pre-approved by Food for the Hungry staff.

All minors are required to have their parent or legal guardian complete the Risk Disclosure for Minors form (see below).  The completed form must be mailed to the Food for the Hungry office.

Minors under the age of 13 are also required to have their parent or legal guardian complete Appendix B ‘Commitment to Adhere to the FH Safeguarding Policy (see below).  The final page of the Protection Policy document (page 8) must be completed and mailed to the Food for the Hungry office.  The parent/legal guardian is stating that they have read the Protection Policy, that they will communicate to their child what behavior is appropriate and what behavior is inappropriate, and that they understand if they witness inappropriate behavior they have a duty to report it.
